The Eternal City. The Capital of the World. Rome. There is no place quite like it with history spanning back millennia, Rome is a sight to behold. When walking through the city, almost every turn there is something historic. You can take a stroll through the Roman Forum where great Roman leaders once stood as they built one of the greatest empires the world has ever known. Or perhaps spend some time in the world’s smallest sovereign state—Vatican City—center of the Roman Catholic faith. Gaze in wonder at the architectural and artistic gems like the Sistine Chapel or just take a seat and watch the world go by in this exciting and fast-paced city. The mythical founding of Rome is one of my favorite stories to tell. According to myth, Rome was founded in 753 BCE by twin brothers Romulus and Remus. The brothers had been cast aside and left to die by their evil uncle because he was worried that one of them would grow up and supplant him. The twin babies were then found and raised by a she-wolf and they would indeed grow up and overthrow their wicked uncle. The two brothers would eventually turn on one another with Romulus emerging victorious. His namesake city, Rome, would then grow from a small kingdom, to a burgeoning republic, and then into perhaps the greatest empire in human history.
