Civil War DBQ Quick Write
In April 1861, the 33 states that made up the United States of America went to war against each other. The war was to last four long, heart-wrenching years and cost the lives of more than 600,000 Northern and Southern soldiers. The reasons for the war have been debated by historians and citizens ever since. This DBQ asks the classic question, "What Caused the Civil War?"
For this quick write assignment, you will need to write two paragraphs answering the question above. In the first paragraph, you should be making your claim as to what caused the Civil War and in the second, you should bring up a possible second cause and then refute it (say why the cause you chose was right and the second cause is wrong). Please be sure to cite at least one document (with a quote) from the DBQ Document assignment in each paragraph.
