2023 • High Sierras
April 15, 2023 to April 16, 2023, July 11, 2023 to July 13, 2023, and August 1, 2023 to August 3, 2023
During the 2022-2023 winter season, California experienced a significant amount of rainfall that helped end the longstanding drought by replenishing the state’s reservoirs and dropping copious amounts of snow in the Sierras. Because of the amount of snow that accumulated in the mountains, I was able to go snowboarding in April, July, and August. The picture of me at the top of Mammoth in April compared to August illustrates just how much snow fell in the Sierras during the winter months. After snowboarding in Mammoth in August and visiting the Devil’s Postpile National Monument, I then drove over Tioga Pass to Yosemite National Park. This was the first time I had ever visited Yosemite, and it was as beautiful as I had expected. Of course, considering that it was August, after driving over Tioga, I went straight home to get ready for the 2023-2024 school year!
