2018 • Poland
April 5, 2018 to April 6, 2018
I took an overnight train from Prague to Kraków and, thus, was able to get started in Poland fairly early on April 5. While in the city, I was able to see several important historical sites, including the Tempel Synagogue, the factory of Oskar Schindler, and the Wawel Royal Castle. The castle was once the home to Polish monarchs before the capital was moved to Warsaw. One of the myths surrounding the location of the castle is that below the location of the castle, there used to be a dragon that is now represented by a statue that breathes fire on the waterfront. During my second day in Poland, I visited the infamous Auschwitz Concentration Camp. It was a moving experience and truly brings home the horrors of the Holocaust and makes one want to recommit to the mantra: never again.
