1998 • New York
August 22, 1998 to August 29, 1998
New York City is one of the most vibrant and exciting cities in the world and the first time I ever left the West Coast, at the age of eight, was to go to the Big Apple. While in New York, I had the privilege to get to know the city in its pre-9/11 state: massive lines to get to the top of the Statue of Liberty, little to no security at popular landmarks, and, of course, the ability to visit the World Trade Center. While not originally on the itinerary, we made time to go to World Trade Center and my most vivid memory out of that trip was venturing to the top of the South Tower (Two World Trade Center) and was in awe by the incredible view of the city and New York Harbor. I also had the opportunity to see two Broadway musicals—the Sound of Music (much to the chagrin of my dad) and Les Misérables (one of my favorite musicals to this day). While also setting foot on the field of the now-closed old Yankee Stadium and even got to watch my Angels beat the hometown Yankees!
